Larry Shea: Video and Interaction Design:
An interactive “smart-room”
was created with MAX/MSP controlling the sequence of audio and
lighting effects based on internal programming and user input
via a toy keyboard. Two characters “The Queen” and
“Alice” verbally spar and each have their preferred
lighting, leading the installation to exhibit several behaviors
or feelings over time. This conflict was mirrored structurally,
by having two laptops each attempting to control the lightboard
via midi commands. The viewers experience an environment
created by this conflict. The toy keyboard allows viewers to
trigger various sound/light cues, such as “off with her
head” and a guillotine sound effect and its corresponding
light cue.
Wonderland traveled to several American
and European venues, in modified forms.
